Tip of the Week

  • December 17, 2012- It’s happened to all of us.  You finally get a weekend completely free to hunt.  Your buddies by some miracle can get away too.  Everybody makes it out to the deer woods without any problems.  What happens?  The “R” word.  Rain can literally dampen the spirits of any hunter.  However, there is good news from the Big Bucks Walking crew.  If you prepared correctly for the season you may still see deer in the rain.  We decided to put it to the test this past weekend.  Despite bad conditions we all decided to get out and hunt out of our box stands that have roofs to keep us dry.  Two out of the four of us saw deer, one buck and four does total, and all of them were smack dab in the middle of our BBW food plots.  So take heart fellow hunters!  Just because the sky is falling doesn’t mean your hopes should be!

  • November 27, 2012- Good news ladies and gents!  The rut is on and and it is getting exciting in the woods.  We had two nice bucks harvested last weekend, both of them chasing other deer on the edge of our BBW food plots.  Most older deer are smart enough not to walk out in the middle of a food plot during the day time.  That’s why we hunters love the rut.  These two big boys were too fired up to care!

  • November 17, 2012- It’s the begining of rifle hunting season here in Tennessee as it is most other places.  As always, a good season depends on good preparation.  There is one item in every hunters kit that needs to be checked more than anything else, and that’s your rifle.  Be sure to put a few rounds through your favorite weapon to make sure that your scope is still dead on and the action cycles smoothly.  In our group alone we discovered two problems during our yearly check that would have caused a lot of frustration if we hadn’t caught them.  Jeremy’s scope was off 3 inches left and low at 25 yards and Charles’s trusty 30.-30. wouldn’t fire on the first hammer drop.  Thank goodness we checked!
